How do I start a Girls on the Run/Girls on Track team at my school or neighborhood site?

STEP ONE: DOWNLOAD AND REVIEW SITE START-UP PACKET

DOWNLOAD NOW

Please read the Site Start-Up Packet for details about starting a site. Girls on the Run of the Greater Chesapeake provides almost everything needed to run the program. Your site would need to provide a:

  • Site Liaison. A contact person at the site to coordinate with GOTR-GC. This person can be a site employee or a parent.
  • Safe Place for Running. This does not have to be a track. A field is fine, however, there would be a need to measure off part of the area for occasions when lessons require running a certain distance. Our programs are 90 minute sessions, twice a week for 10 weeks. Sites need to confirm that this space is available to host the program twice a week.
  • Rain Location. A designated space indoors for team to meet; a gym, covered outdoor area, hallway, etc.
  • Volunteer Coaches.  At least two coaches to be trained by GOTR. We provide the training, curriculum materials, background checks and CPR/First Aid certification for all coaches.

Please contact us with any questions or needs along the way. We are happy to meet with you, or your school administration, to talk further about starting a site.

STEP FOUR: FOLLOW-UP

Please note that all applications are subject to prior approval. A submitted application does not guarantee the program will be offered. Girls on the Run of the Greater Chesapeake is rapidly expanding and we are doing our best to accommodate as many new site requests as possible. Unfortunately, it may not be feasible to start a site, due to funding and staff limitations.

Spring 2012 sites will be announced on December 16, 2011. Fall 2012 sites will be announced on June 5, 2012. Specific instructions will be provided to all applicants with this announcement.
