Coach Spotlight: Lois

1) How have you been involved with Girls on the Run?
I have been a Coach for either a Heart and Sole team or Girls on the Run team since Spring 2018.

2) What drew you to the program to get involved
I saw a program proposal presentation about the GOTR program in a Delaware school several years ago. After the GOTR program was completed, the Coaches and team followed up with another presentation about their experience.  I could tell from seeing the "before and after"  that the girls had connected as a team and gained so much more confidence. I wished there was a program like GOTR when I was growing up.  I knew that I would volunteer to be a GOTR Coach if I ever had the chance.

3) Why do you think it's so important for girls today to have access to this program?
The GOTR program delivers on target life skills such as Competence, Confidence and Caring. These skills are critical during the targeted age groups to navigate through the pressures of today and prepare girls for a successful future.

4) How have you seen the program impact a girl on your team?
Every season I have been privileged to watch the transformation of girls on the teams. For example, one girl initially would not interact with the team, rarely answered any questions or would stand off to herself. Within a few short weeks she was participating in all activities, selecting partners to run with and shed some tears and a smile when she crossed the finish line of the practice 5K. By completing the 5K, she had accomplished something she once thought was not possible and realized she could do anything she put her mind to. She transformed both mentally and physically plus  learned how to make friends.

5) What are some of your hobbies or interests?
I enjoy running and yoga, traveling, reading, and spending time with family and friends. Being a  GOTR Coach gives me the opportunity to have a positive impact on the girls. I hope to be involved with GOTR for many more years.
