New Board Member Spotlight: Cierra Colón!

Meet Cierra Colón, Girls on the Run of the Greater Chesapeake's New Board Member.

We are thrilled to introduce Cierra Colón, new GOTRGC Board Member! We asked Cierra a series of questions about her involvement and thoughts about Girls on The Run. Here's what she had to say:

What drew you to get involved with Girls on the Run of the Greater Chesapeake now?

I share the same mission and values as the Girls on the Run organization. As a Black and Puerto Rican female married to a Pakistani immigrant with Islamic beliefs, I value diversity, equity, inclusion, and access. Starting my day off with movement (usually a Peloton workout) is a non-negotiable in my life as it contributes to my overall health/well-being (physical, mental, social, emotional, etc.). Through serving on the GOTRGC board, I'm excited to join an organization that prioritizes instilling confidence in all young girls, but especially, those who look like me.

Why do you think it's so important for girls today to have access to this program?

It’s crucial to uplift everyone during all phases of life, but especially young girls navigating adolescence which is sometimes challenging and confusing. I’m excited to start educating people about the program. I’m sure a lot of people think the organization is only offering physical health benefits, but there’s so much more we’re pouring into these young girls and their families. Physical health is only half the battle, but how you talk to yourself, how you treat others, and how you show up are all equally important factors that contribute to an individual’s success, and thankfully GOTR emphasizes all these aspects and more.

What are some of your hobbies or interests?

I’m obsessed with Peloton. I have the tread and bike, and will more than likely invest in the rower eventually. I enjoy reading thrillers, listening to crime podcasts, and watching crime TV. When I’m not consumed with all things crime, I’m probably watching all things Bravo TV – especially all The Real Housewives franchises. For any Harry Potter fans, I’m a Slytherin.
